A Prosthetic Leg

Thanks to wonderful supporters like you, four-year-old Remi is able to walk again. In Nigeria, there is less than one doctor for every 2,000 people, so Remi’s leg had already become severely infected by the time he was diagnosed with leprosy. The only option was to amputate his leg to save his life. The Leprosy Mission's Chanchaga Workshop is a nine-hour bus trip from Remi’s home, but his mum, Yemaya, believed it offered her son a glimmer of hope.

Happily, Remi was fitted with a child-size prosthetic leg, so now he can get around and go to school like other children his age. And, as he grows, Chanchaga Workshop will create new prosthetic legs for him at no cost to his parents.

Many leprosy patients face leg amputation. A custom-made prosthetic leg restores mobility and enables an amputee to return to school or work and live independently. A new limb offers new life and fresh hope for the future. £500 goes a long way towards developing, making and fitting a prosthetic leg.
